Riumar to Sant Carles de la Rapita -- 36.7 km

That was a long first day, about 22 miles. But all very flat and nearly all on off-road tracks. We were walking alongside water nearly the whole time, either the wide Ebro River or a canal that gets its water from the river.

A first for me -artichokes growing.

The towns were well placed too. Coffee in a bar at about km 14. Boots off test on the grass in front of the church on a second small town, about another 15 km further on.

Interesting historical site for the day-- a "machine gun nest" from the Spanish Civil War. The Ebro was s hugely important battle line. The plaque from 2014 described those who fought the Republic as "cruel and unjust."

We're now in a little pension in a town with a lovely port. Our room has a balcony so after showers we'll probably go buy some food and have a picnic looking out over the harbor.

No knee problems, but I'm icing my shins and knees just for prevention. Tomorrow is a much shorter day, under 30 km of the guidebook can be believed.

So far so good. Fingers crossed.
