We stopped in Amposta for coffee at about 9, and then nothing till we got here at about 1 pm. In the town I saw a lot of signs in Catalan saying "no al transvasament." These are protests against the government's plans to divert Ebro water south, to Murcia and Almeria. Aside from the fact that the Catalans just view this as another theft by the central government, it may also have the effect of ruining a lot of rice fields. As the river water levels drop, more salt water from the sea enters, and I was told that the increased salt level of the water will kill rice.
