Then we got to La Fontcalda, with its sanctuary and amazing setting next to a small rocky canyon with water running through.
Then up to the famous foot statue
And then our first real ascent, a good warm up but nothing too strenuous with about 250 m elevation gain. Really beautiful views.
I arrived in Gandesa with plenty of time to see the museum on the Battle of the Ebro. I saw that there were 30,000 Lincoln Brigade who fought in Gandesa and 21,000 died. There were some good videos with footage, both showing the war itself and the almost as tragic aftermath.
We paid our 10 euros for the albergue and then learned that it's a long way from town -- near the recycling operation. It probably isn't more than a km out of town but scenic it is not. We are in one of three flats the town owns for housing migrant workers, clean and two bedrooms. So we will each have our own bedroom tonight! Much more luxurious than the tent, but the bed is far inferior to those nice air mattresses on the floor of the tent.
Hoping we find a place to sleep tomorrow. If not, we'll dust off our thumbs and hope for a ride.
Amazing views!!
